Weldable surface
Cleaning and preparation are critical to a repair seam. Aged or contaminated membrane may require a wider repair area or an appropriate alternative detail.

TPO sheets are joined with heat-welded seams. The field membrane needs properly detailed edges, corners, drains and penetrations to become a continuous roof system.
Attachment can be designed in different ways for the building and selected assembly. The roof deck, insulation and perimeter conditions affect that choice. A membrane’s surface appearance does not establish the condition of the layers beneath it.

The work must match the existing roof and the selected materials.

Wet insulation cannot be restored by placing a new surface over it. Attachment has to transfer loads through a suitable assembly to the structure below.
Curbs, pipes and drains need suitable flashing and termination. Equipment access and service traffic should be considered so maintenance work does not create avoidable damage.
Choose the scope after establishing the extent of the condition.
A localized opening can be repaired where the surrounding membrane remains sound and can form a compatible seam. The detail needs to account for the original cause.
Widespread deterioration, moisture or attachment problems may justify replacement. Insulation layout and drainage improvements can be evaluated with the new system.
