Seams and laps
Cleaning, primer and the specified seam materials help form the connection. Covering an opening with an incompatible product can complicate the next repair.

EPDM is a rubber single-ply membrane. Unlike TPO, its seams are joined with compatible adhesive or tape systems rather than heat welding. Repair preparation needs to suit that material.
The membrane field can remain serviceable while seams, edge details or flashing at equipment need attention. The assessment must also consider attachment, wrinkles, drains and moisture below the surface before selecting a repair.

A repair should restore a compatible connection without hiding the cause.

Vertical transitions, inside corners and termination points need details designed for movement and water exposure. Repeated patching may indicate the base detail needs reconstruction.
Wet insulation and deteriorated substrate can extend beyond a small visible defect. Their extent affects both repair boundaries and the case for replacement.
A black surface or a single leak does not establish a whole-roof failure.
Localized defects can often be addressed with suitable repairs when the membrane, attachment and surrounding layers remain sound. Drainage and equipment-service damage still need attention.
Broad deterioration, unresolved movement or widespread moisture can make a new assembly the more practical path. The scope includes removal and the insulation and drainage work needed beneath the membrane.
